This competition-grade Sencha comes from Shiga Prefecture and is made from the Yabukita cultivar – Japan’s most widely grown tea variety, long regarded as the standard for balance and quality.
It offers a well-rounded flavour with gentle grassy notes, subtle umami, and a pleasant natural sweetness, leaving a clean and harmonious finish.
In Japanese tea competitions, judges evaluate not only the colour and taste of the brew, but also the appearance of the dry leaves. The ideal leaf is said to be thin, straight, and needle-shaped, reflecting careful craftsmanship. For this reason, producers hand-select the finest leaves to create small, limited batches reserved for competition use.
The maker of this tea received an award at the 77th Kansai Tea Competition (2025).
His teas are among the most highly regarded in Japan, and through our direct relationships with growers, we were able to obtain a few rare packs for our customers.
