Gyokuro (literally “Jade Dew”) is one of the most prestigious Japanese green teas, considered the pinnacle of tea craftsmanship. Its leaves are carefully hand-picked and shaded for several weeks before harvest. Shading slows photosynthesis, allowing the plant to retain more chlorophyll, amino acids, and especially L-theanine.
The taste of Gyokuro is rich in umami, smooth and full-bodied, often with notes of seaweed, buttery sweetness, and fresh herbs. Its aroma is refined, fresh, and harmonious, leaving a long, clean finish with virtually no astringency.
Gyokuro has been cultivated since the 19th century, originally in the Uji region near Kyoto, which remains the heartland of this exceptional tea. In Japan, Gyokuro is traditionally associated with hospitality and special occasions, as it is a rare and highly valued tea.
Our Gyokuro selection includes teas from different regions and cultivars, including rare and competition-grade varieties. Each tea is carefully chosen for its freshness, quality, and authentic character – making Gyokuro a true jewel among Japanese green teas.
