Outstanding Gyokuro Saemidori Kiwami – the pinnacle of tea mastery

In Japan, the term Kiwami (極) is reserved for creations that stand at the very peak of perfection – a mark of mastery, precision, and deep respect for tradition. This Gyokuro Kiwami embodies exactly that spirit, crafted with devotion and attention to every detail.

The name of the cultivar Saemidori (冴え緑) means bright green, perfectly describing this extraordinary tea made from the first flush of spring leaves – radiant, fresh, and full of life.

Saemidori is a rare, early Japanese cultivar cherished for its rich umami taste and deep green liquor. Originally known as Makurazaki No. 9, it was created by crossing Yabukita and Asatsuyu, and later officially registered as Saemidori.

This tea comes from the garden of Mr. Sakamoto, located about 200 meters above sea level – a place where clean mountain air, fertile soil, and artisan skill come together. Careful soil preparation, a favorable microclimate, and decades of experience create ideal conditions for the cultivation of the highest-quality teas – above all, the exceptional Gyokuro Kiwami.

The tender Saemidori leaves require meticulous processing, perfected by Mr. Sakamoto through many years of practice. The result is a tea with a bright green liquor, fresh and elegant aroma, rich umami flavour, smooth clean finish, and minimal bitterness – the true pinnacle of Japanese tea craftsmanship: Kiwami.
