"Ujihikari" (うじひかり / 宇治光) literally translates to something like "the light of Uji".
“Ujihikari” is a noteworthy, locally-developed tea cultivar native to Uji, Kyoto. It was selected from local Uji varieties, and initially designated as Kyoken No. 170. Although it remains unregistered as a formal cultivar, Ujihikari has become highly regarded for its excellent quality and distinctive aroma.
Ujihikari’s wavy, thin, and tender shaded leaves are ideal for Gyokuro, Tencha, and powdered green teas. When shaded, the leaves develop a desirable marine aroma.
This Kabusecha yields a bright, brilliantly light-colored liquor, with very rich gyokuro like umami and elegant aroma.
