The Asatsuyu cultivar, bred in Kagoshima, means "morning dew" and is often called a "natural Gyokuro". It offers a flavour similar to Gyokuro without the need for shading the tea plants.

The leaves of this cultivar are thin and, despite being processed using the futsumushi (standard steaming) method, they are delicate. The resulting tea contains some smaller leaf fragments.

This tea brews to a deep green liquor with a pleasant sweet aroma, full body, pronounced sweetness, low astringency, and rich umami. You’ll also find pleasant vegetal notes reminiscent of green edamame beans, with each sip revealing new layers of flavour.

Thanks to the smaller leaf fragments, this sencha is also ideal for preparing as mizudashi (cold brew) or koridashi (brewing with ice cubes). After just 30–45 minutes of steeping, it delivers a refreshing and pleasant taste.
