Mature Tibetan dark tea (Hei Cha 黑茶, literally "black tea") from the historic tea centre of Ya’an in Sichuan Province. Produced in 2003 according to traditional methods, it offers an opportunity to taste a tea that has been ageing for more than two decades, developing a deep and earthy profile.
This pack contains one individual 65 g brick from the original package, which contains four separately wrapped 65 g bricks. It is ready to enjoy now, while also offering excellent potential for further ageing and collection.
The tea leaves come from the misty Yunwu Shan mountains, at an altitude of over 1,200 metres above sea level. Traditional Kangzhuan (康磚) tea has been part of Tibetan and Himalayan tea culture for centuries. After harvesting, the leaves undergo a distinctive process of slow fermentation and ageing at the Ya’an manufactory, developing a smooth, mellow taste with no pronounced astringency and warm woody and earthy notes.
