We have transformed our many years of tea knowledge, experience and insights gained during our visits to Japan into our own unique teas, created in collaboration with our Japanese partners directly in Shizuoka – one of Japan’s most important tea-growing regions.
Our GABA teas are made from organically grown tea leaves from selected Japanese cultivars, specially cultivated and processed for us using methods we have developed together with our Japanese partners. Central to the process is a carefully controlled anaerobic stage, during which part of the tea processing takes place without access to oxygen. This special process promotes a higher content of gamma-aminobutyric acid, known as GABA.
The result is a collection of teas with a truly distinctive character, combining our own requirements for quality, carefully selected tea leaves and Japanese tea-making expertise.
This year, we are introducing two exceptional tea treasures: Japan GABA Midori, with an exceptionally high GABA content of up to 560 mg per 100 g of tea, and Japan GABA Hikari LT, containing up to 240 mg of GABA per 100 g of tea and an exceptionally high level of L-theanine – up to 3,400 mg per 100 g of tea.
With both teas, we have also focused on creating distinctly different flavour profiles, so that every fan of our GABA teas can discover something to enjoy.
Our GABA teas are among the most distinctive teas in our collection. They are the result of our own ideas and experience, and of close collaboration with people who truly understand Japanese tea – created directly in its homeland.
