Tea School is for everyone who wants to learn something new about tea, prepare tea correctly during our tea workshop, and taste different varieties of tea.
During the Tea School you will be able to prepare a selection of green, black, white, oolong, pu erh, Darjeeling and GABA teas, and enjoy a tasting of Japanese matcha.
Please note: the Tea School is conducted in the Slovak language.
PROGRAMME OF THE TEA SCHOOL
BLOCK 1 – 9:00 to 10:30
- Introduction and an overview of what “tea” means
- Tea from a botanical perspective
- Origin and spread of the tea plant
- Tea-growing regions
- Factors influencing the quality of the tea leaf
- Photo presentation – China, India and Nepal
- Tasting of green teas (China, Japan)
- Discussion + short break
BLOCK 2 – 10:30 to 12:00
- Tea processing, classification and preparation
- Withering, oxidation, fermentation
- Basic types of tea
- Classification according to the Chinese tea system
- Photo presentation – processing in Meng Ding, Darjeeling
- Tasting of light and dark oolongs (China, Taiwan)
- Discussion
LUNCH BREAK – 12:00 to 13:00
BLOCK 3 – 13:00 to 15:30
- How to prepare tea correctly
- Different methods of tea preparation
- Tea utensils from various tea cultures
- Photo presentation – Chinese teahouses
- Tasting of white and black teas (China, India)
- Discussion + short break
BLOCK 4 – 15:30 to 17:00
- Health-related aspects of tea
- Tasting – Pu Erh teas (China)
- Tasting – Matcha (Japan)
- Open discussion and tea session
- Quiz winner announcement (winner receives a tea gift)
- Course summary + your observations and ideas for improvement
- Travel videos
- Tea quizzes and photographs from tea journeys
- Each part of the lecture is supplemented with short quizzes and a slideshow of photos and videos from tea trips, plantations, and factories.
